- 4.7 million Americans drunkenly making their way through the song "Proud to Be an American." Fewer than 1% could give you a meaningful definition of the word "pride."
- 32 million Americans with Proud to Be an American bumperstickers on their Saudi gas-guzzling, foreign-made SUV's. Maybe 2% could give you a coherent definition of the word "patriot."
- 1 million Americans turning drunkenly to their liberal brothers-in-law and saying, "Hey, love it or leave it." 3 of those morons could give you even a rough outline of the Constitution.
- several hundred sleazy politicians trying to figure out how to keep the issue of flag-burning at the forefront of public debate, while avoiding such things as health care, education, port safety, immigration issues, and the systematic destruction of the freedoms enumerated in the Constitution.

When I see people with their bumperstickers, I have to wonder....
What have any of these people done to be proud of? They managed to get the bumper sticker on their cars right side up...mmm...no, in most cases they didn't. Those ribbon bumperstickers have really caused a crisis in bumperstickery. Upright, lying down, which side? It's not easy being a patriot. Pride: feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one's own achievements, qualities, or possessions. No one person gets to be proud of America or proud to be American. It's the sheerest chance you were born here and it takes a group effort to build something great. Putting a bumpersticker on your car does not count. (Ever heard "pride goeth before a fender bender"?)
What makes them patriots? Did they stand up for America? Patriot: a person who vigorously supports his country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. Carrying a gun doesn't cover your bases. Yes, physically defending the land of your country is important, but not if at the same time you're supporting a political party that seeks to destroy the freedoms that we supposedly value. If we don't value, support and protect the Constitution, what's the point of protecting the flag?

What's the sign of a real patriot? Someone who is humbled to be an American, who believes in real freedom for everyone, and who values the expression of dissent, even from morons like [insert your favorite loudmouth moron here]. Since freedom of speech is one of our greatest freedoms, you actually lose patriot points every time you tell someone to "love it or leave it."
Especially you, dumbass, turning west on Kennedy from Boulevard, driving the big blue F-250 on Thursday. Yeah, you, the one with the giant confederate flag decal on the entire back window of your truck and the matching "Love it or leave it" decals on your side windows. Dude, you're not in the Confederate States anymore...this is the United States. I already left your country. All of us did. You're just trapped in a fucktard time warp.

I wonder if the blue F-250 is related to the giant yellow SUV from Texas currently blocking my gate?
Right on, sister. Oh, they don't even have to commit to bumperstickers on the SUV. They can put one of those magnet thingys on the car. "We Support Our Troops" magnets, but apparently not enough to have a sticky bumper sticker on my Escalade.
Trish, I'm willing to go so far as to say that anyone who puts a magnetic "Support Our Troops" ribbon on his car is helping the terrorists win. I think the President will back me up on that one.
my bumper sticker says "WTF" next to a pic of bush.
I support our troops, but at the same time I'll admit to questioning the same things. I won't admint to saying the same things when I drive...but I blogged about it once lol...
